Planning a cruise next year that docks in Civitavecchia, but not interested in going all the way to Rome as I've seen it many times before . . . it's too far really to do anything but have and extended lunch, and head back to the ship! Is Orvieto a doable alternative destination regarding travel to and from on a one day stop? Thanks for your help! :)

Orvieto is going to take you longer to get to than Rome. By train it's 2.5+ hours, if all planets align. By car less than 2 (if you had a car).

We are also looking for an alternative... I am thinking about Santa Marinella or Santa Severa for beach? And castle... But I can't find too many people who have done that for feedback! Kim
