Orvieto: Day trips?

Wife and I will be spending a week in Orvieto in early May.
Probably will want to rent a car for several days in order to take some day trips around the area. Also considering taking train into Rome for a day.
Any sudgestions as to where to go, places to eat etc.?
Thanks

One popular day trip from Orvieto is the small town of Civita di Bagnoregio, which is featured in the RS shows. There's parking at the base of the bridge to Civita, but I can't remember if it's pay parking.

There are numerous towns in Unbria that are just a short drive (1/2hr to 2 hours max): Spoleto, Todi, Assisi, Spello, Gubbio, Perugia, Castiglion Del Lago. Also, in Eastern Tuscany, you can visit Cortona, Arezzo, Anghiari, Chianciano, Montepulciano, Pienza, Lucignano and many more.

We loved Civita di Bagnoregio, in fact we stayed there for 2 nights. But, we like very small towns and wandering and getting to know locals. Did an olive oil tasting in someone's home. You can't drive into the town, you have to park and walk up the hill, which is not that bad.

Rome is about an hour away by train, can't really suggest sites to go as there are too many!

Roberto beat me to it, great suggestions for daytrips if you have a car.

For any town you plan to visit, be sure to research the restricted traffic zones first. Also, Google Maps is pretty good about showing you where the pay parking lots are. Don't forget to switch to Streetview to take a look around the area for yourself so you can know what to expect as you're driving.
