My husband and I will be going to Italy in September. We will have a rental car for a portion of our trip.
We would like to know how long it takes to drive from Orvieto to Civita di Bagnoregio. Has anyone done this?

Yes, we have drove all over Italy (I lived in Siena for a year so drove around Tuscany / Umbria frequently). Last time we did the journey in 2006 the trip took around 30 minutes (its 25km). When visiting Civita you park at the end of the village of Bagnoregio (next to a cafe/restaurant with a public car park next door) and walk less than 1 minute to the start of the footbridge which goes over the gorge to Civita.
Hope this helps.
If you are thinking of staying overnight in the area, I would highly recommend the Romantica Pucci B&B in Bagnoregio (see the RS book). Certainly the highlight accommodation in my recent trip to Italy. Tastefully done rooms and fanstastic dinner and breakfast. The hostess, Pucci, is a joy.
