Will be staying a week in Orvieto and will want to rent a car to see the surrounding villages.
Planning on being there in early May 2015. Do I need do reserve a rental car ahead of time at the Hertz location at the train station?
Would prefer to wait until we arrive so I could determine the exact number of days during the week that I would like to use the car but don't want to find out that none are available.
Will it be a problem if I wait, more expensive or no cars available, or should I reserve before we go?
Any help would be appreciated.
You will likely save if you do it a few weeks ahead of time through a consolidator like www.autoeurope.com or their affiliated www.kemwel.com.
When you plan your trip just plan no more than a day for Orvieto itself without a car. Rent a car for the remainder of your stay.
And if you are staying in the town itself, do not park in Piazza del Popolo on the night before market days (Thursday and Saturday). Cars get towed.
Good information.
I was thinking along the same lines as Roberto.
Possibly rent the car for a longer duration, which may have a total cheaper price than multiple times at a daily rate, even though we will not be using it all the time. It would be nice to have that flexibility.
The place that I will be staying is very close to the Piazza del Popolo and I was wondering if any sudgestions as to where to park when not using the car.
Can I park overnight in the Piazza and is there a charge, or at the train station for free or would it be better to seek out a paying area for the duration of my stay?
Any ideas as to parking?
