I will be in rome for 3 nights and would like to do a trip to Orvieto and the borghese gallery in day...other days are a tuscany tour and just walking around the old town...can I do this if the borghese tickets are later in the day...3rd trip to Italy...thx
this is october...if that helps
Trains from Roma to Orvieto take about 1:15-1:30 one way. That means up to 3 hours train time. There is a 7:28 train, arriving in Orvieto at 8:43. There is a train going back at 13:25-14:50. Your reservation for the Borghese would have to be very late in the day to make this work. That would give you about 4 and a half hours in Orvieto.
So you'll only have one day to explore Rome itself? That's kind of nuts.
ya...the majority of this trip is in Sorrento 8 nights...i fell in love with the place on my first visit
We visited Orvieto for an afternoon between Rome and Montepulciano and loved it. It’s a little far from Rome for a day trip but very accessible if moving between Rome and Florence or Siena.
Just remember that you have to arrive at the Borghese Gallery before your reservation (I forget if 30 minutes is enough, but it's something like that). If you don't, they will sell your ticket to those waiting for no-shows. So, don't cut this too close.
I think I'll leave Orvieto for a trip when I dedicate more time to Rome. My next trip is going to be a Sicily tour...so maybe after that;)
Orvieto is a very attractive town (if crowded with tourists) that is worth a whole day daytrip.
Will you give yourself a chance to fall in love with someplace nicer than Sorrento? Say, Venice, or Bologna or Florence or Cinque Terre or ...
I am going back to venice on this trip, after Rome( i'll stay away from St. Marks from 10 to 4) and have been to both florence and the cinque terre, also wine tour in tuscany, san gimignano. But, sorrento was just a place I really loved. So this stop will be a focus on that region and I can do other places, like sicily on the next.
I would also like to see the lake region...so much travel and so little time. My next big trip after italy is actually around amsterdam and england in 2019.
the most magical places I have been so far are Kauai and Sorrento...just love the rugged landscapes
I also really loved san juan, it is ashame what is happening to those people now :(
oh...and malta and santorini are very high on my list as well
i did not care for athens and turkey...but that might just be personal preference
