Orvieto Advice

Trying to pick which day we want to take our day trip to Orvieto from Rome. Are we better off going April 6th (easter Monday) or staying in Rome that day and seeing some of the sights in Rome or is there no difference? Thanks in advance.

Without knowing where you are going afterwards it is hard to say. Orvieto is a lovely town, in fact I spent 2 nights there in a palace, saw the town, did an Etruscan cave tour, and never got bored. It is more of a relaxing place. It all depends on your itinerary.

I would play it by ear. Four nights and three days in Rome is not much. You may find you do not have time for an Orvieto day trip. I would say Monday will be busier in Orvieto if it is a nice day. Easter Monday is a big day for outings and with good weather it will be crowded. If the weather is NOT good, Rome will have more to offer.

As you make your plans keep in mind that many places in Rome are closed on Mondays. Also be aware that in Orvieto many places shut from around 1 to 4 pm. Plan time to be in Orvieto into the early evening when a lot of tourists have left and the best part of Orvieto, it's people, are out for passagiata.
