Orvieto

We are a family of 4 (2 teen boys) embarking on a 20 day adventure. We start in Paris, 2 nights Venice, 7 nights in a Villa near San Giminagno, 3 nights Orvieto, 4 nights Rome. We are in Orvieto Saturday, Sunday and Monday and plan to take the the train to Rome early Tuesday morning.

1st question: For those who know this area we welcome any advice on what to plan to see and what days?

2nd question: We are planning to turn the car in Monday at noon but wondering if we should keep it until Tuesday?

Thanks everyone - really appreciate all the advice.

You can do some research on your own by reading Rick Steves' Orvieto recommendations on this very website:

http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/destinations/italy/01orvieto.htm

You'll see that Orvieto is a wonderful place to visit. You don't really need a car if you are just visiting the old town on the hilltop; and the rail station is just a funicular ride away, at the foot of the hill. If your itinerary is Orvieto, immediately followed by Rome, you might consider turning in the rental car upon arrival in Orvieto, saving you 3 days of rental fees.

Hi Lamont,

Thanks for the advice. I understood that a car was required to visit the are inc. Civita? If it can be done without that be great!

I agree with the previous post. You can take a day trip by bus to Civita(a must) on one of your days. The bus is caught right in Orvieto check Ricks book
