I plan on spending some time in Rome this winter, and would like to take a day trip to Orvieto. Does anyone who has visited Orvieto have any practical advice on what to see, what to eat, etc., in Orvieto? Grazie!
We arrived late afternoon and only had time to do the underground tour, the Duomo and some view walks. We ate at a place called La Palomba. I had the carbonnera(the best I have ever eaten) and my husband had the truffle pasta. They shaved the truffle right at the table. It was a very generous amount of truffle. It was fantastic. I think it is only open for dinner. We stayed at Hotel Posta. Very comfortable and the people were very friendly.
Take a tour of St Patrick's Well. It's a fun walk down!
Also, just walking the town wall and looking around is great. Enjoy the main piazza and the side streets.
Orvieto is one of our favorite hilltop towns in Umbria!
Love, love, love Orvieto! It's a great change of pace from the action of Rome. See the duomo, the caves and the amazing views of the countryside. Drink the white wine and eat the truffles.
