I plan to go to Ortisei from Milan this summer and return to Bologna, my question is (I haven't seen it on here), are there several trains each day that go to Bologna? I check the Italian train website and cannot find anything this far in advance and when I plugged in a more current date, it only shows one train each day. I'd appreciate any help! thank you...Sandy
You'll need to take a bus from Ortisei to Bolzano and switch to a train there. Most departures require one or two changes (Verona being a frequent transfer point), but on the random day I checked there was a 1:12 PM direct train that arrives at 3:44 PM. There are earlier options, but they are slower and do require at least one transfer. There are lots of trains each day, some with longer layovers than others.
Go to the trenitalia website (don't use a third-party website; they may not list all the trains), select a day later this month that matches the day of the week on which you expect to travel. That should show you the minimum number of trains that will be running. If the COVID situation improves, maybe there will be more trains??
Many of the << [edited] options on this route will be a combination of a regional train and a Freccia train. Always pay attention to the total travel time on that sort of combination. You pay a lot extra for the Freccia leg, but you can lose almost as much time as the Freccia speed gains you if you are stuck with a long layover. Be sure you're getting the speed advantage you are paying for.
thanks for this info....I will do all of that, I just want to make sure that I'm not locked into taking just one schedule.....it'll be mid-june, I'd think it'd be quite popular...again, thanks....
Trenitalia.com shows 11 direct trains a day between "Bolzano Bozen" and "Bologna Centrale".
The First leaves at 5:12 am, the last at 18:31.
The fastest ones are the 4 FrecciArgento departing at 5:12, 7:12, 13:12 and 15:12. These trains do the run in 2 hours and 32minutes.
I doubt they're going to add more direct trains before June 12.
Are you planning to rent a car?
