Ortisei - Lodging?

I think I am taking Laurel's suggestion and am going to do my last days in Italy in Val Gardena and embrace the winter atmosphere & things to do. I have heard Ortisei might be the town to stay in unless someone has strong opinions on another town. Lodging ideas? We will be coming from Savona, Italy via train to Bolzano and then taking the bus to Ortisei/that region I am guessing. don't intend to have a car so want to stay somewhere convenient to grab buses, or that has a shuttle, etc. and not too expensive if possible.

The buses stop along the SS 242, and wherever you stay in town you are really just a short walk from it. The only thing is that in winter, if it's icy, one might fall while walking uphill or downhill (Ortisei isn't exactly on flat terrain). The heart of town is the Strada Rezia starting from Piazza Durich Basically near the church and east, so when you look for accommodations, see if you are close enough to that area. But as I said the town isn't that big.

We stayed in Hotel Fortuna in September in Ortisei. It was perfectly located just one block out of town. Close enough to be central, but just off the path enough to be quiet. The price was very reasonable and they had great mountain views. It's a family run place and they speak German, Italian and English. The breakfasts were pretty standard European fare and the beds were very comfortable.

If walking on icy streets is a problem, you can get "stablicers" (a lightly studded stretchable attachment that goes under your shoes). I think LLBean has them.
