After getting everyone's responses to my previous post my husband and I have decided to do Munich and Ortesei. Anyone have some hotel recommendations for Ortesei? We will not have a car and it seems like it is not necessary. Plan to do some hikes and just explore the area in general. I found Garni Alba bed and breakfast not sure if anyone has stayed there. thank you!
Hotel Grien. Loved it.
When we stayed in Ortisei our primary goal was going on hikes, going down to Bolzano, and enjoying the ambience of being up in the mountains. Not a foodie adventure. If we go back I would pick a hotel this time that has dinner included (eg. half-pension). There are a few pricy and undoubtedly good restaurants in Ortisei but the ones we ate at were nothing special.
Garni Alba looks very nice and convenient.
We loved Hotel Grones and definitely recommend the half-board.
We stayed at Hotel Dolomiti Madonna and enjoyed it. Breakfast buffet was great, and they also offer half board dinner, but we ate our dinners at other restaurants in town. We were given passes to ride the bus to surrounding towns for free. Ortesei is a wonderful town.
I’ve stayed at Hotel Grones twice, most recently last September. I highly recommend it, including the half board option. The food is very good.
I stayed at Fortuna. It is probably a few minutes’ walk further from city center than some places, but nice. I did not have a car either.
We stayed at Garni Hotel Max in Santa Cristina. Clean, comfortable, great hot water, delicious breakfast, steps from the bus stop, and kind, helpful owner.
Con: we were there in October, and there weren't a lot of options in town for dinner.
Pro: on departure day, we were some of the first people on the bus. Once the bus stopped in Ortisei, there weren't enough seats for everyone trying to get on.
