Ordered train tickets - now what?

Hi, I order my train tickets from Florence to Venice on the Trenitalia website and was emailed a confirmation of the transaction. Should I be getting anything more than that? How do I get the tickets? Or is just the code recovery number all i need? I just dont want to get there and not have what I need. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks,
Mary

Mary, The email confirmation is all you need as long as it shows the PNR code. You don't go through any ticket turnstiles, just board your train and keep the email handy. The conductor will come around, just show him/her the email (you may have to point to the PNR) and you will be all set. Easy peasy. Have fun! Jessica

You should have received an email from Trenitalia with a document attached. This document should print out on a 8-1/2"x11" piece of paper and it should show a 6-digit PNR code and an internet icon for scanning. If yes, this is your ticket and you need not do anything more. Just get on the train listed on the ticket. The conductor has a wireless PDA device that he/she uses to input the PNR number or the internet icon. You'll be fine. If you don't have the document with the information described above, please advise and let us know what you have received.

Thanks so much for the information but I do not have anything with a PNR number I have a piece of paper that shows the details of my purchase. It shows the names, train number, rate, date and seat numbers. It says Mode of Delivery - Electronic Ticket It then says "buy without registration" I have sucessfully completed my purchase. The identification data of the trip, PNR and CP will be sent to my email: [email protected] It says if I need to retreive your purchase using the code in recovery.
Code 4687236 I have never been emailed anything and I was charged for these tickets. When I go to the Trenitalia site I cannnot find how to do my recovery code. Mary

Sorry Mary, it looks like you took the easy way out and chose not to register with Trenitalia before buying your ticket. We've been seeing a lot of issues with people not registering not getting all of their documentation. From what we are seeing, Trenitalia doesn't tell you that you may not receive your actual tickets; they just let you proceed with the purchase without registering. You do not seem to have the document with the PNR number on it. Your tickets are in the system but you now have to go through some procedures to get them. First, go to www.trenitalia.com and select English. Second, go to the Customer Area. Third, go to Online Purchase Management. Fourth, go to the last sentence in the center of the page. It says "click here if you bought without signing in". Fifth, go to Purchases Without Registering and select Retrieve Purchase. The box will change to Name, Surname and Recovery Code. You are on your own at this point. If you need to buy more tickets, please register.

Registering doesn't help. I registered twice with two different email addresses but was never able to actually sign in. So I finally bought the tickets unregistered. Luckily my email has PNR codes.

I never received any email after I purchased the tickets. I did do what Larry explained and I emailed it again to me here at home and my work email so hopefully something will happen. How soon after you ordered did you receive the email? If I never do get my email with the PNR, can I take what I have to the train station in Florence and have them give me my PNR.
Or maybe our hotel would help me with this? Mary

Mary, I see from your message above that you do have the recovery code. Did you enter that into the system? If yes, give it overnight for the email. After that, I would suggest calling Trenitalia to solve the problem. Others have had to call Trenitalia. I am not sure that you can get the PNR number at the train station.

I got the email almost immediately. Maybe you entered your email address incorrectly.

Mary, Check your SPAM folder. Sometimes email goes astray.... If you still don't have the email you can 1) call; 2) wait until you are in Italy, go to a ticket kiosk and try to print there; 3) go to a ticket window in Italy. Of course bring your Recovery Code and confirmation. If you choose to wait unitl you are here, you can do this from ANY major station. You don't have to wait until you are in Florence. If you have a stop in Rome first, for example, you can complete the transaction here. Don't be afraid! The Trenitalia people are pretty service-oriented and I have always had great help from them. Mary, larger train stations (like Florence, Venice, Rome) have Trenitalia "Customer Care" offices near the ticket booths, you should be able to straighten out the problem there, either in Florence or at a prior destination.
