order to visit Italian cities

We are visiting Rome and then going to Sorrento this spring. After there we would like to visit Sienna, Florence and Lucca via public transportation. Do you have suggestions on order? Is it harder to travel on Sunday's? We have some flexibility.

julie, As the others have mentioned, it would really help to have some idea on your flight arrangements. Given the locations you mentioned, my preference would an inbound flight to Milan and then visit Lucca > Florence > Siena > Rome > Sorrento. The outbound flight could either be from Naples or Rome. Using a Bus on the Siena - Florence route is often the best method. Cheers!

Where are you flying out of? The answer to that may effect the best order to visit those three Tuscan cities. The trains/buses might run a little less frequently on Sundays, but you should also be planning around Monday museum closures in Florence.

We are flying into Rome, spending a week there and then going to Sorrento for 5 days and at the end of the trip leaving from Venice. The first two legs I know will be done by train. I'm assuming from Sorrento we need to take the train back to Naples before we can go north. We have almost a month this spring to explore Italy. Is it harder to change lodging on a Saturday night? Thank you for any help.
