Hi, we would like to visit rome, venice, ct and montalcino or montepulciano.Do you have any suggestions on the order of the places we should see? We would like to start and end in Rome and Venice, or Venice and Rome. Thanks a lot in advance.
Many people coming from the US like to have Venice on the front end of the trip. Getting to the city from the airport is easy and the city can have a slower pace to recover from jetlag on your arrival day. Also many of the return flights from Venice seem to leave early in the morning which can be a hassle.
So I would suggest starting in Venice and ending in Rome.
The other factor would be time in Italy. Depending on the number of days and the season, the Cinque Terra is a bit out of the way from your aother destinations. It is doable but the trip from Venice to the CT would be a long travel day.
Julia,
I would do Rome first. When you arrive you are so excited and ready to go and there is so much to see in Rome. Venice is more laid back, a place to take it easy and relax after all your traveling. Much calmer and relaxed.
I have a suggestion on where to eat in Montalcino,
Ristorante L' assedio. It was one of my favorites.
Julia - If you decide on Montepulciano and plan to use public transportation, there's regular bus service (except Sunday which is spotty) between Montepulciano and both Chiusi (1 hr) and Siena (2 hrs) train stations. Several Chiusi buses each day, but only a few to/from Siena. Some of the Siena buses are seasonal. Chiusi is good for trains to/from Rome or CT (via Florence). Siena is good for trains to/from CT.
