Option for Travelers for Forgotten, Lost or Broken Items

Perhaps I'm the last to know, but I just became aware of an option on Amazon.it that can help travelers when a needed item is lost, stolen, forgotten, or broken. If you can predict where in Italy you will be a couple of days ahead, you can now receive packages at 'Punti di ritiro' (retrieval points) such as a huge number of post offices and some Amazon lockers. We were recently able to get an obscure computer adapter much more quickly - and cheaply - with much less hassle than looking endlessly in stores.

Amazon.it is only in Italian although they carry many familiar items, including numerous Rick Steves books in English. Your US Prime doesn't work, although your US account sign-in is valid. Free standard shipping is available over a certain amount - 29 Euro presently. You'll need a government id with the addressee's name, and the post offices will return unclaimed items to Amazon after a specific period (ours was 15 days) for an automatic refund.

Great to know. Thanks Mike. I'll keep this info - maybe do some shopping on my next trip.

Funny this has not come up prior. Good thing you mentioned it, Mike!

Hotels will also receive items for you if they know the shipment is coming. I had great luck with this when spending a month in the Dolomites with the cats. We ordered in their supplies so we didn’t have to haul them along. I have done this with Amazon as well as other in-line companies in Europe.
