Perhaps I'm the last to know, but I just became aware of an option on Amazon.it that can help travelers when a needed item is lost, stolen, forgotten, or broken. If you can predict where in Italy you will be a couple of days ahead, you can now receive packages at 'Punti di ritiro' (retrieval points) such as a huge number of post offices and some Amazon lockers. We were recently able to get an obscure computer adapter much more quickly - and cheaply - with much less hassle than looking endlessly in stores.
Amazon.it is only in Italian although they carry many familiar items, including numerous Rick Steves books in English. Your US Prime doesn't work, although your US account sign-in is valid. Free standard shipping is available over a certain amount - 29 Euro presently. You'll need a government id with the addressee's name, and the post offices will return unclaimed items to Amazon after a specific period (ours was 15 days) for an automatic refund.
