They are a new airline, created a bit over a year ago from the ashes of Alitalia. So I haven't flown with them. I'm sure there are those on the forum that have, but don't expect too many answers.

(Btw, their name is ITA Airways)

Former Alitalia crew members flying (with very few exceptions) airplanes inherited from the defunct Alitalia (in most cases still with the old Alitalia livery since they have repainted only a few of them with the new livery). The executive management is new.

So, although I haven't yet flown with them, I would expect similar service as the airline with the old Alitalia name.

I'm booked on ITA in October/November, LAX - FCO. It's on an A350, which is a newer platform. It looks like the new nonstop from SFO is on an A350 as well. So equipment shouldn't be an issue, except we don't have much info on how they are outfitted.

If you're looking at Delta/ITA flights, the ITA A330s from the East Coast may be the older Alitalia planes, based on what I've read. But they have the advantage of two-abreast seating in the side sections.

It may take some digging to find fees for seat reservations - the extra legroom seats on the A350 are $120 each way. You may want to factor that into the final price you pay.

Finally, I found a bug on their site when booking - I couldn't add my Delta Skymiles number when first building my profile - got an error and it wouldn't proceed - had to go back and add it later.

I flew Boston to Rome non-stop with them last year, 2022
Felt EXACTLY the same as Alitalia. In fact some of the paperwork we had and interior plane signage said ITA, while others said Alitalia still despite them being long out of business.

Plane was an Alitalia plane, route and time was previously run daily by Alitalia pre-Covid, etc... etc....

Service and all else was fine, nothing felt NEW other than I do recall one not very well trained new employee in Boston working the check in luggage area that initially refused my young daughter a boarding pass because she had her Covid vaccine ; but not the booster. At the time the FDA had not approved boosters for children under a certain age which she was way under, which I tried to explain to him the impossibility of what he was asking for.

I almost lost it but some else working came over and set him straight and it was all fine from there on.
Not relevant anymore but the airline nor Italy even required my daughter's age to have a vaccine at all ; let alone a booster requirement.

Anyway I would fly with them without hesitation and definitely recommend for any US - to Italy routes. Have not flown on any of the inter-Europe flights.

Will be using them in July as connecting service for my Delta outbound itinerary (JFK-FCO-TIA) on the FCO-TIA leg.

Ciao..in Italy now. While everyone's experience is different..I would not fly them again. From Venice to La Mezia took 10 hours..was supposed to be 3. So many delays..mixed messages..I expect delays..I get it..but lack of direction and clarity was evident with
several flights. While our connecting plane sat right in front of us .after running due to a late flight out of Venice..we were not allowed on due to some rule. We got..eventually..to LaMezia safely..at 230 am..so just my experience. I am a pretty chill traveller..so I try to realistically observe..lol...and my observation is that I will avoid them at all costs.. but..just my opinion.

I will never fly with them again. Just back from Italy - flew Milan to Bari round trip. They’ve changed the departures countless times. No customer service or care for their customers!
