Kelley,
I've stayed at the Hotel, and would most certainly stay there again. Could you provide some examples of the "comments about the hospitality"? Laura runs a "tight ship" but I've had no issues at all.
I was there again last year for a day trip, and stopped to enjoy a fine hot meal at Olivedo before heading back to Milan. I had a great time and had a wonderful visit with Laura.
Cheers!
We spent three nights at Olivedo several years ago and would not stay there again. Beds were very uncomfortable--old worn out mattresses--like camp cots. Breakfast was meager to say the least. The hotel is an attractive building but needs some major renovations. Laura, a chain smoker, was borderline just plain rude. The checkin desk on main level had a constant cloud of smoke surrounding it and the lobby area. Laura became angry with us because we had difficulty finding the ATM and nearest laundry.
We stayed there 3 nights in '05 and loved it. Laura is a little stern--she's got a lot to do in a very long day that starts at 7:00 am and is still going at 9:00 p.m. every day. We found her to be very hospitable, really smart--she speaks 5 languages fluently--the hotel was charming and the food was terrific. My husband thought the beds were too hard, but that was his only complaint.
Oliveda is a great place to stay. Right on the water, great views, great food, great access to the other towns. Laura, was most helpful for us. She is very matter of fact, and has much to do, but we both really enjoyed our time there. The Hotel is old, but very well cared for. As for the beds, We both slept fine. I think if you go looking to be offended, you will be. If you go looking for a nice place to stay, that is right on the ferry dock, and has some of the best food in the area, you will be very pleased. By the way, if you do choose to stay at Oliveda, try the puimpkin gnocchi. It is wonderful. Enjoy. Caio, Jeff
