Opera in Verona Arena

Howdy do fellow Helpliners - Now that I have had to postpone my usual May/June trip to the heat of July, I have remembered that Verona has opera in July at the Arena. Have any of you had experience with the Opera there? Are the cheap stone seats up in the Gods any good? Any hints? Thanks

Thanks for that, Lola, Aida is on again this year. I haven't seen it since I was in high school and at the Met. One of the slave girls lost her top. That was some experience for a 16 year old! I'd love to do the Verona Opera, have to see if the plans fall into place.

Hi Nigel- were in Verona for the season opening last June. I bought advance tickets for Aida in the cheap seats and was very happy with the choice. The acoustics are good in the whole arena and we had a broad view of the spectacle. Part of the fun is the camaraderie of the crowd, which we enjoyed very much. We did not even have cushions for the seats as we came in too late to get them (all rentable cushions were gone). I confess that we only stayed to the end of the Grand March as it was our first night in Italy, dealing with jet lag (9 hour time change.). But for that time we were OK on the hard stone with no backs to the seats. You know yourself best and whether you would be physically comfortable on the stone stepsmis your call. But as a place from which to really see the opera, we thought it was fine and Inwould do it again if there is a next time.

I haven't bought tickets yet, Shaun, as I am still exploring the options. When you have yours perhaps you could share the experience?
