Help! We're making our first trip to Italy in August and are being taken to the Opera in Verona by some German friends. What do you wear? From there we go to Venice for a day, then board a cruise for the Greek Isles. I know Rick advocates packing light, but with the Opera and formal nights on the ship, what's a girl to do?
We were at the opening night in June 2006. Some people on the main floor were in very formal clothes. We were in the numbered seats and most people wwore norma business casual type clothes i.e slacks, or khakis and a nice shirt and normal dresses and tops for women. It will be very hot at the start and still warm after midnight when the opera is over. Don't worry about clothes. It is a great spectacle. I don't know where your seats are going to be, but higher than the numbered seats are the stones. Remember that it is very crowded if you want to eat berfore or after so make reservations.
