We would like to visit an opera house while in Rome in June-- just to sight see. Which one would you recommend based on the grandeur and intricacy of it's interior design? Would it be opened to the public any hour of the day? Which part of Rome would it be?
Thanks.
The only one I know is the one on Piazza Gigli, next to via del Viminale.
Running an opera house is a fairly complex job of scheduling conflicting rehearsals and performances in a limited space and time. Opera houses may be open to visits but they must be scheduled too and each house has its own policy. To my knowledge, the only opera house that is relatively open is La Scala in Milan, that has its own museum with an entrance to a stall. If there is not a conflicting event (it is a big if) museum visitors can get a fast glimpse to the main hall through the stall. The ordinary way to see an opera house is attending a performance.
