Hello,
We have been planning to visit CT upon our arrival in Italy Mar 29, but a number of hotels are closed until April 1, and someone said this is when the CT "opens." Does anyone know what this means, or if it's worth changing our itinerary? (Currently fly into Milan, 3 nights CT, 3 nights Siena, 3 nights Florence, fly out of Florence). I wonder if the boats start running April 1?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Joy
There are not many hotels in Cinque Terre villages besides Monterosso. Accommodation is in private.
last winter I was booking my trip and worried I would have to wait until they "opened". I received a response within days from the Hotel Villa Steno. (stayed 4 days) They also gave me advice on my itinerary. Highly recommend!
eta my stay was in the beginning of June however when I was looking to book I didnt hear back from most rentals. They may be able to help you decide whats best for you
Joy,
While 1 April is the "official" opening of the season in the Cinque Terre, I'm sure there will be some hotels open on 29 March. I'd suggest trying Monterosso first as it's the largest of the five town and therefore has the greatest number of accommodations and other tourist amenities. It's also the only one with "conventional" hotels (ie: with a front desk, elevators, etc.) and many serve a nice breakfast.
I would also highly recommend Hotel Villa Steno or their sister property Hotel Pasquale. If neither of those have vacancies, post another note here and I'll try to provide some other suggestions. If you do get a room at Villa Steno, take a cab from the station as that's easier with luggage.
Yes, the Cinque Terre boats are starting April 1 this year, about a week later than the past few years. The schedules were posted earlier this week. My guess would be there's a tourism business association that informally coordinates dates.
There is a wonderful Hotel in the "new" area of Monterosso that doesn't get much attention.......Hotel Villa Adrianna. I believe it's a former convent, so rooms aren't fancy. However, they're spacious and pristinely clean. Bathrooms are completely updated. Because of it's location on the other side of town, Hotel Villa Adrianna is really quiet, though in easy walking distance to the train, beach and "old section" of town. We spent 3 wks traveling in Europe last June, and the breakfast at the HVA was the best we had anywhere.
Such an incredible selection of fresh and homemade food! Rates are within reason of equivalent hotels in town. It would be worth contacting HVA. Hope you have a wonderful trip! :)
Thanks everyone for the feedback! I have an inquiry with Albergo Marina, and will check out other mentioned recommendactions.
Assuming I locate a room in Monterosso for our dates (Mar 29 to Apr 1), should I stick with that itinerary? Or will services be so much better starting April 1, that I should go through the hassle of trying to change my Monterosso dates to Apr 1 to 4?
Thanks
We're visiting Cinque Terrence in late March and I ran into some of the same problems when trying to book with hotels. We ended up finding an apartment on the side of a cliff in Riomaggiore through AirBnB. There were a lot of options available in all the towns throughout March when I booked (but that was several months ago). It's worth giving it a look!
