I have gone to the official site for buying general admission tickets to the colosseum, but I cannot find an “open ticket” anywhere. I can only find timed tickets. Can anyone help me locate the exact spot online?

Carla, there aren't any "open" tickets anymore. If you buy in advance, ordinary tickets (meaning to sightsee on your own) are timed-entry only. Those tickets are here:
