"Open Entrance" Palatine Hill/ Roman Forum

Does "Open Entrance" to these sites mean that I can purchase our tickets today and see them anytime during our trip? We will be there end of June and I'd really like guaranteed access to the super sites.

If this is the ticket you're looking to purchase....

....it is, "valid for 30 days from the booking day." So you could use it once within 30 days of purchase, no pre-reserved timed-entry reservations needed. Do note the hours and days some of the SUPER sites are closed, and check again before your trip for any changes? For instance, they may temporary close one, or re-open another, such as the currently closed House of Livia. :O)

Thank you. Also, I don't see just regular entry tickets to the Colosseum alone. Do these exist? Or would I have to purchase entry with Palatine Hill and Roman Forum in addition to their stand alone tickets with SUPER access?

No, there aren't any tickets JUST for the Colosseum other than the night tour.

As far as I know, to see the SUPER sites you have to purchase the ticket linked in my previous response with TWO exceptions; A. By purchasing an annual PARCO membership: € 80.00 for 2 adults + up to 3 children, or € 50.00 for a single adult aged 31 and older. It also covers the Colosseum + some other perks. B. By purchasing a "Full Experience" ticket that includes the Colosseum, either arena or arena+ underground (see my comment below).

If you have a membership, you still need to make a free advance, timed-entry reservation for the Colosseum but it appears that they have lots of openings for members:

Editing to add: The SUPER sites are also included with "Full Experience" tickets for the Colosseum but those have become very difficult to get hands on 'cuz demand far outweighs availability. I've edited the info above to include those tickets.

I haven't heard of the open entrance ticket, I was trying to get the Full Experience Ticket, but am having trouble for my date, July 3rd. Are these the same type? Can anyone offer clarification?

"Open entrance" ticketing applies only to tickets for the Forum/Palatine and not to the Colosseum. ALL Colosseum tickets are timed-entry. Tickets are not yet on sale for July 3 but do be aware that the "Full Experience" tickets you want to purchase are probably the most difficult to obtain of any attraction in Rome. They literally disappear within a few minutes of becoming available....which can be in the middle of the night depending on what time slot you are wanting to book.

See "Method of release" under "NOMINATIVE ENTRANCE TICKET FOR THE COLOSSEUM" on this page of the Coopculture site for details regarding when tickets become available:

Thanks Kathy. We aren't planning on going to the colosseum so I guess that answers my question.

Hi Kathy,

Whew! Thanks so much for posting the "valid for 30 days" about the open pass for the forum and palatine hill. I totally missed reading that and almost bought tickets too soon that would have expired! I could not get tix with colosseum included. Do you think getting the open pass for Forum and Palatine is a worthwhile plan B?

It's probably best to reference the Forum/Palatine ticket as "Forum/Palatine Pass SUPER Ticket" so it doesn't become confusing for forum browsers who might go looking for "Open Ticket" or "Open Pass". :O)

A "worthwhile" question is always subjective. In this particular case, it would depend on how keen you are to have access to interiors of structures in the Palatine not accessible to visitors with just standard-entry tickets to the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine. Google up some snaps/info of what those structures are to see if they trip your trigger? As noted above, also check the visiting days/hours for each of them (there are currently 6).

Regarding the Colosseum, we covered the stand-in-line ticket option as well as booking a tour with an outside company in your other thread.

Since "Open entrance" is different from the timed ticket, does this mean people can't skip the line and have to wait in the line to enter? Is the line for going into Roman Forum long? Thanks.

This is an open air museum so I don't think there is ever really a line. It's huge. We were there this past June. I book a tour through the Roman Guy which included Colosseum and Palatine Hill/ Roman Forum. If you want guaranteed Super Site access, I'd book them completely separate. Be aware that it may seem like you're double paying. Also, the Super Sites have specific days and times so you may not be able to see them all, and they can be open at different times and days. Kind of disappointing. A few months back I read the ticketing process for the historic sites was changing so you may want to research that.
