Oops with non-refundable Italo ticket

Soooo, I got confused about my itinerary and managed to book a non-refundable Italo ticket from Milan to Florence for the wrong day in June. It was relatively inexpensive, but still, I'm kicking myself for my carelessness.

Although no changes to the specific train are permitted, passenger name changes are allowed. So I was wondering, is there any sort of clearinghouse where I could offer the ticket to someone else who might be able to use it?

I caution this with the statement that I don't know this for an absolute fact regarding Trenitalia tickets. Do you need as identification the credit card used to purchased the ticket? I think that was true in Germany and France recently but cannot recall in Italy. Obviously if credit card is need, then you cannot give the ticket away.

Good point. The ticket contract said a name change was permitted, and Italo says all you need is your reservation number (and, one assumes, some kind of ID), but the credit card question is worth investigating.

I would even happily give it away, as long as I knew the person was going to use it and not try to sell it themselves. I just hate to see the money be a complete waste. It's even a Comfort ticket - it was only €1,60 more than Smart so it seemed worth getting.

I did the same thing on Alitalia on a flight Rome to Budapest for my wife and I--$266.
Phone call within 2 minutes, and they cancelled the flight reservation. I rebooked with the right date.

I have never been asked to produce a credit card on an Italian train, as of August 2016; but things can change.

Changes to non-refundable train tickets is not comparable to changing an airline ticket at the super-economy level, although economy train tickets may be changed for a fee until a certain time before the original train departs (I think it's one hour).

This one said no changes at all, but I suppose I probably should have called them right away. It's been a couple of days ago now so it's probably too late. Maybe I'll call anyway; all it costs me is the Skype call.
