Bought Italy book. Started 3 weeks ago and tore out sections as we passed through. Supposed to leave from Rome tomorrow, but now we have to go back up to Milan instead and will be stuck there tomorrow night. Need room near airport, clean, economical. Suggestions please?

I presume you are leaving from Malpensa Airport. In the old days before they had the train going inside the airport, I would stay in Gallarate, very close to Malpensa. There is a hotel in Gallarate almost in front of the train station. It was called "la Vecchia Rotaia" (The old rail). Now apparently it's called "La Nuova Rotaia" (The New Rail). I guess it was renovated. http://www.lanuovarotaia.it/enter.html The other option is to stay in Milan but close to the Cadorna station where you can catch a train to the Airport. You can search something online in that area.

melany, As mentioned in the previous reply, you could also stay near Milano Cadorna (depending on what time your flight is). The trip on the Malpensa Express from there to MXP is very quick. Hotel London is not far from Cadorna. You could walk from the Hotel, but with luggage I'd spring for a short Taxi ride to the station. The breakfast room is a bit "compact" but you could have breakfast elsewhere. Good luck!

Near the Malpensa airport I can recommend the Hotel First. Free shuttle to and from airport and a clean, modern hotel.

I stayed at a small hote/inn "MXP Rooms" - 5k from the MXP airport. They will pick you up at the airport or take taxi for 20 E. Took shuttle from Centrale (train station) stayed at MXP Rooms
and then back to airport in the early AM for flight.
