Only coffee? No tea???

I have seen a lot of posts talking about how good the coffee is in Italy. It even seems to be a matter of pride there about how good the coffee is! Well, I used to be a big coffee addict and switched over to tea a few years back!My question is can I even find a good cup of tea in Rome?

For many years, wealthy Englishmen and women did the "Grand Tour" of the Continent, and English-style teahouses sprung up all over the major destinations in Italy. In Rome, Babinton's is right by the Spanish Steps, directly across from the Keats-Shelley House. It is what Mr. Steves would refer to as "a splurge." http://babingtons.net/eng/ I may be wrong in my recollection, but I believe that the Babington's location was once another teahouse that Shelley, Keats, and Browning frequented.-- if not, there was another teahouse very close by.

There was plenty of good tea at the breakfast in my hotel. I also had good tea after dinner in many restaurants. If you take milk they might bring you heated milk though.

I too only drink tea and found it at all the restaurants we were at in Italy. However, since I am such a tea snob, I also took some of my own teabags so that I could have my favorite occasionally. The milk is definitely served warm.

Wherever the British have been, whether as tourists or colonialists, tea will follow. I had no trouble getting tea at any hotel or B&B where we stayed in Italy. I did find in cafes that sometimes if I ordered "English" tea they would bring me Earl Grey, which I happen to abhor. So I was always careful to specify plain, black tea (te nero), and then hope for the best. I also carry a mug and immersion heter, and teabags, just in case.

My wife only drinks herbal tea. No black tea. It's very difficult to find herbal tea so we bring our own supply of tea bags.

My taste buds thank you all!! I wanted to pack some tea bags myself and my husband was teasing me about what a tea addict I've become from being a coffee addict!! But reading all the posts here, I feel like the normal human being as opposed to my husband who has no such special requirements!!! haa haa

I found tea at many places-may not be advertised so just ask. Babington's a very nice and pricey tearoom. Strated by an English ex pat. Black cats is their motif!
Chamomile is a popular tea to Italians. Very soothing on the tummy!

All our hotels provided an Italian breakfast in the morning, and great tea was always included. Restaurants where we visited also offered tea. We were just there a few days ago on a Rick Steve's Heart of Italy Tour.
