My husband and I will be ending our Italy vacation in Rome. We are planning on coming up from Amalfi late morning, arriving early afternoon in Rome and are on a flight out the next morning. Any suggestions for how to spend the one afternoon/evening that we have? Thank you!
Help us help you - what time of year? been to Rome before?
How about: An afternoon and evening walk around the Forum, St. Peter's as part of 'essential Rome.' Later in the evening, drinks and dinner in Trastevere can be very special. End the evening with a drink in front of the Pantheon, a gelato by the Bernini fountain in Piazza Navona. It's a start - I'm sure you'll get many more suggestions here.
It will be July 12th. That all sounds lovely. I wasn't sure which landmarks to try to fit in without making it hectic. Not the Colosseum? We've never been to Rome (or Italy for that matter!), but do plan to go back with our kids one day and we will focus more on Rome at that time. Thanks!
The Colosseum will be very hot on an afternoon in July. In the evening you could go to the “light show” in the Forum. http://www.viaggioneifori.it/en/
I would skip the Colossem and Forum since access is control for the total area. Until a couple years ago the Forum was open and Colossem required admission but now the area is tied together. You can walk by but save for the next trip. You can easily walk by or through the other sites. Take it easy - find a restaurant, have a class of wine, enjoy the evening - it could be hot. I grab a hotel in the Termini area for the convenient of the train if using the train to the airport.
