Online Trenitalia ticket- what to do now

I purchased my tickets on Trenitalia from Rome to Florence and return. I have the printed voucher. Do I need to validate this ticket or show it to anyone- at the station or on the train? How much time should I allow prior to the departure time to be at the station? Thanks!

Just have the voucher with you and when on the train, someone will come by checking all tickets, just show it to them.
You do not need to validate this ticket, it won't fit in the machines anyway.

Plan 15- 20 minutes before your train to be at the station. You should check the departure board to make sure the train hasn't changed tracks (this has happened to us just a few times)

Board the train and take your seat (I'm guessing you might have reserved seats?) and enjoy the journey.

Jean, if the document you printed out has a 6-digit PNR number on it, that's your official ticket. You need nothing further. Also, you don't need to validate any high-speed ticket with seat reservations on it. It's the Regionale train tickets with no seat reservations that you have to validate. I would suggest being at the train station and ready to board 30 minutes early as Roma-Termini can be quite crowded. Please note that you may not see your track number posted yet on the big digital signboard as there are so many trains coming and going, postings begin about 30-45 minutes before departure. Just hand your paper to the conductor as he comes through. He has a wireless PDA device that can read the QR code that is also on your ticket. You're good to go.

Jean,

I'm assuming the tickets you purchased were for the Freccia (high speed) trains? If that's the case, as the others mentioned you'll only need the PNR code which will be shown on the ticket. You don't need to validate.

One important point to mention is that tickets for those trains are specific to a particular train, date and departure time, so you can ONLY use the one train listed on the ticket. If you board any other train, you'll be subject to hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!

If you'll be using Regionale trains (will have an "R" preceding the train number), Buses, Metro, etc. then tickets MUST be validated or again, hefty fines collected on the spot!

Happy travels!
