I’m confused by the Italian guidebook information about train ticket validation. We purchased tickets online from Deutsche Bahn to get us from Padua to a city in Austria. Do we have to valid these in some way? We currently have the tickets printed on paper, but they wouldn’t go in a machine ( at least I don’t think so).
Only regional train tickets purchased from a machine or ticket window need to be validated. Regional tickets purchased on-line and printed are pre-validated for a specific time, so do not need to be validated. But I suspect you may have purchased high speed train tickets which have seat reservations. Since these are valid only for a specific date and train, you do not need to validate these. Just show them to the conductor when he/she comes by checking tickets.
