I'd like to buy tickets to the Borghese Gallery in advance, and many sites promise you can "skip the line" with their advance reservations and tickets, but the prices vary wildly! Is there any reason not to trust the less expensive options? The one associated with the museum itself is one of the most expensive: taking a ticket price of 8.5EU up to almost 30euro! Do all advance purchase tickets allow you to skip the line (for tickets)?
We were in Rome for 8 days in May, 2009. We bought a Roma pass and used it. I think that got us into the borghese gallery. The Vatican, bless their sweet hearts, was the only place the Roma pass didn't work. We walked right up to the Borghese gallery, there was no line as I recall. They let you in at set times. Have fun!
We won't be in Rome long enough for the Roma pass to make sense. I really just need tickets to the Borghese and the Vatican, and the goal is to skip the line, and not get ripped off on the price. But thanks!
Everyone has to make a reservation for the Borghese gallery. There is no real line to worry about because everyone is given a set time to enter and leave, though I suppose there could be a short line to pick up your tickets (no less than 30 minutes before you're reserved time). Just book directly through the Borghese website. You'll only pay the regular ticket price, plus a 1 euro booking fee per ticket. Go to the official booking site here: http://www.ticketeria.it/ticketeria/borghese-regolamento-eng.asp BTW, I'm not sure when your going, but you can only book through the end of April right now. The Borghese doesn't accept reservations very far in advance.
I meant to add that the Vatican museums are a whole different story, and you'd be wise to reserve those (although you don't have to). I believe you can book directly with the Vatican, but I don't have the information about that because we booked a tour.
Not sure which websites you're looking at but the official website for booking the Borghese gallery charges 9.50 each for tickets that normally cost 8.50. If you are looking for entry tickets to the colosseum combo the official ticket seller, pierreci, charges 13.50. You can book skip the line tickets directly through the vatican for a 4 euros fee. There is never any need to pay more than just a few euros to pre-book tickets. You might be looking at re-seller sites. Donna
