One week in Tuscany big group with kids

Hello,
I would appriciate any help I can get.
we are planning a trip to Tuscany in April, we will be 4 families each with 2 kids (4 yearolds an 1 year old)
We will be with cars but prefer to have short car trips (no longer then 1-1.5 hours each way).
My main question is where should we base ourselves?
From some investigation I did, there are few main places people have recommended to stay but each for different area in Tuscany.
For Example, Montepulciano for the south part of Tuscauny, Alta Val D'Elsa for the center, Cortona for east.
So my question is, in what area should we stay so we can have planty to do and see, kids will enjoy and the drive trips won't be too long.
My other question is, should we take a villa or Agriturismo?
And if you can point me to good reccommended places.

thank you so so much.

Wow! Traveling as a group of 16 is quite a responsibility, and quite difficult to manage logistically.
The farms in Tuscany are relatively small, and virtually every one has apartments and rooms for rent as a secondary source of income.
The area I prefer is outside of Poggibonsi, perhaps in the countryside outside of Certaldo or San Gimignano. That's maybe 45 minutes or less south of Florence. Many hilltowns are close by for day trips, like Volterra, Montalcino, Siena.
It'd be nice if you could find a Villa online. Especially if you could afford to have a cook take care of the meals.
Such places are available if you search online. I usually start at Booking.com, but there are more and more websites coming online daily.

If you want a place to house 16, in a small village with all the amenities, and within 2 hours of anywhere you want to go I suggest checking out Santi Terzi (Google will get you there). It is a big villa in a small town and fun. You can catch the train to Rome at Narni, and drive all over Umbria and Tuscany from there, we have done that. Plus, you have a Roman ruin, Carsulae, in you back yard that not many folks visit. Unless you are absolutely dead set against staying anywere but Tuscany, I can heartily recommend San Gemini, Umbria.

After many trips to Tuscany, this Agriturismo is still our favorite that we keep returning to.

It's one of those places that feels like home.
Set on a hilltop with views over the vineyards and olive groves. It even has its own castle.

Hosts are wonderful, and it has easy access to all the places you've mentioned, most under one hour.

The apartments are named after their grandchildren.
