My friend and I would like to see Florence and Cinque Terre and maybe even Rome. We are not great walkers, are there any tours that would work for us?
Are you asking about a tour to include all three or tours in the cities once you get there? With a week I would only do two locations. A week is not much time.
If you mean walking is physically difficult for you, scheduling bus tours would probably be the best option. Many of the tours in the RS guidebooks are walking tours, but I'm sure folks will have some recommendations. I've found narration on the hop on/off buses to be pretty awful and hard to hear. Also, I'd suggest finding hotel near a taxi stand and using them to save energy. And I've known folks who found those canes that have incorporated seats to be helpful. Finally, check carefully re elevators in lodging; some hotels that have elevators still require partial flights of stairs to get to the elevator or to get to specific rooms; upscale chain hotels might be a good bet. FYI, re budget lodging, I've found convents often have elevators even in towns like Venice where elevators are rare. If you just mean you don't like to hike for miles and miles, I think you'll be fine. I share that trait and do fine. I'm involved enough I don't notice how far I'm going.
Cinque Terre villages are quite hilly and some walking is required. There is a trail connecting those five villages, the easy flat part is between Riomaggiore and Manarola and between Manarola and Corneglia. Villages are connected by train and in season also by boat. I am not aware of any organized tours there because tour buses won't get there. Rome has plenty of tours. Cannot give information about Florence; that I have planned for this fall.
Pam, I don't know of any tours that specifically cover those three locations, except of course for RS tours. However, as you're "not great walkers", that probably wouldn't be a good choice. Also, some walking is going to be required in all of the locations you want to see. It would be prudent to do some "conditioning" prior to your trip. A week is really too short to see those three locations. I'd suggest picking two and split your time between them. Happy travels!
If walking is difficult for you, stick to Rome and Florence or Rome and Venice. More "flat" ground, Cinque Terre is for walkers/hikers. If you want available public transportation: buses/taxis, stick to Rome and Florence. It's easier. In Rome you can do a hop on hop off bus tour, and of course, you can always get a "tour by taxi" if you're willing to pay for it. Florence is smaller and manageable, and you can walk from Piazza to Piazza and have a nice drink and then continue on. Both are beautiful cities. Someone gave you good advice to maybe try some conditioning before you go.
