One way car rental in Italy

Folks,
I was trying to find one way car rentals from rome to venice for 3 days (apr22-25) and the prices are around $60/day .Is that common?
What's the best place to pick up a car in rome and best place to drop off in venice. I am assuming both airports are connected by metro into the city.
We are staying in agritourismo in tuscany for 3 days .
I checked

www.kemwel.com
www.gemut.com
www.autoeurope.com
www.ebctravel.com
www.myrentalcar.com
www.initaly.com
www.veronarentacar.com

Any other suggestions?? I have not got quotes from all as yet. Please let me know if you know of any other way to do this itinerary?

Thanks,

One ways are common and rental in Europe, esp Italy, is not cheap. It is easier to find your way out of the park garage and city than into the city and to the park garage. That is why I choose to pay a bit more and rent at airport. Autoeurope is very reliable.

I would say that rate you got is quite good. I did a one-way from Rome to LaSpezia and it was over $300 for three days. Getting out of Rome was a bit interesting--invest in a good map!

We are doing this also, but havn't reserved a car. There is a special at autoeurope for a GPS rental $84 a week. I have found it is cheaper to rent by the week, we only needed 5 days but will save train fare and drop off in venice also. The special I found was at
http://www.autoeurope.com/showspecial.cfm?specid=81

You need to reserve by the 31st of March, to get the deal. From the sound of experience on these boards, GPS in Italy is well worth the splurge. Please let me know what you end up with. we don't go until July. I have never rented a car in Europe and am waiting to hear what others have to say.

$60/day sounds like the usual rate for only a three day rental. It becomes cheaper when you rent for a week. Renting one-way within Italy shouldn't be a factor.

I would pick up at the airport in Rome - you can get out there by train. Dropping off in Venice is a breeze. You can only drive into the main parking lot at Piazzale Roma and the rental car offices are there.

I have used Kemwell each time we travel to Italy. It was a turn key service and our wait at the airport for the car was always a shorter line than the rest. We turned the car in early and received credit. If you fly into Rome pick it up at the airport. We actually dropped off the car in Rome under the Borghese Gardens since we didn't want the car in Rome.

An added thought. Are you driving an auto matic or a manual. We were upgraded but paid the lower price b/c our size car was not available at the time. The rate for your time period per Kemwell is $214 -268 for economy class.

We rented a car last summer from Auto Europe and left out of Rome. What I did was ask the agent (over the phone) for the BEST rental location to get out of the city. As the agent was giving me locations, I was online checking out the locations and proximity to the exits. This worked well; we took a taxi to the rental agency and it was fairly easy to navigate to the ring road (just a few turns and not a lot of traffic)and then to the highway to Tuscany.
