One Way Car Rental from Bellagio to Stresa

We will be checking out of our hotel in Bellagio on Lake Como and then going to our Hotel in Stresa on Lake Maggiore. We are trying to determine the best way to get from Bellagio to Stresa.

We have a quote from a Taxi Company in Bellagio but its very expensive. We would like to investigate renting a car big enough for 4 adults + 4 good sized suit cases. Can anyone recommend a Car Rental Service that might be available for a one way rental from Bellagio to Stresa so we could drive ourselves (versus a taxi)?

Grazie,

Rich Hamilton

It looks like Avis is represented at Stresa, but you could not pick up a car at Bellagio. You could pick it up before going to Lake Como, or could take a long ferry ride to Como town at the south end of the lake, which also has Avis, according to Google Maps.

Or you can take a short ferry ride across the lake to Varenna, then trains to Stresa (2 hours with a connection in Milan); see www.trenitalia.com.

I would rent a car for my entire stay in both lakes especially if you are the type to travel with "good sized" luggage. And if 2 of the four adults are women (the wives) you know who's going to carry their suitcases off and on the trains.

Also with a car on lake Maggiore you can more easily visit lake Orta (Orta San Giulio), Cannobio, Locarno, all of which are a distance from Stresa. Also if you are headed to Malpensa from Stresa, it's a short 45 min drive.

I don't know where you are before and after the lakes, but any city or airport in Lombardy will have rental locations.

You need a 'standard' (large) size car for four adults and big luggage. If you can do with smaller bags you can get away with an Intermediate.

Try not to have a car while you stay in big cities like Milan. Definitely not needed there.
