One Night Stay in Milan Convenient to Airport

On our upcoming trip to Italy we have one hole in our schedule. After our last stop at Lake Orta we will be flying out early the next morning from Milan Malpensa airport. I don't know if we will have time to experience much in Milan but because we are leaving so early the next morning we need to book a one night stay somewhere reasonably convenient to the airport. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good hotel that fits the bill? We will be flying out at 6:45 am and need to get there a couple of hours prior to that so closeness is going to be important

work your way backwards through the posts, someone did this a few weeks ago and had a decent looking hotel at the airport. I think he was coming down from Switzerland so it might be posted there instead of Italy.

We can recommend Hotel Cardano, where we stayed several years ago. It has a free airport shuttle, comfortable rooms and wonderful service.

Shortly after we checked in, we learned that our flight home the next morning (to Denver via New York) was cancelled (Hurricane Sandy). After hours on hold with American Airlines, we were rebooked to Denver on BA through London, on a flight leaving from Linate Airport.

At midnight, the front desk clerk was able to arrange a taxi to Linate for 5 am & had cappuccinos and fresh croissants waiting for us in the morning before we left. Priceless.

We stayed 2 nights at the Holiday inn Express. Not fancy but very clean. Plus they have free breakfest. The hotel offers a shuttle service to the airport. However, if you walk 1/2 a block you can catch the free Malpensa Airport shuttle bus. We found the free shuttle to be more convenient then the hotel shuttle.

Thank you for the replies. This helpful information should allow me to care for the final lodging detail in our trip.

Greg,

If you want really convenient and really close to the airport, you could stay at the Malpensa Sheraton, which is attached to T1. That would of course cost more but for such an early flight that might be the best option.

The rooms are VERY comfortable (as they should be in that price range).

I've stayed here recently, since my flight from LHR arrived late in the evening. No more than 5 min drive from T1. I had my own rental car, but they have a shuttle for guests. Great place.

If you are departing that early you are probably flying to a European hub (I presume Frankfurt with Lufthansa or Istanbul with Turkish, both of which depart at 06:45). MXP is not that busy nowadays since Alitalia has severely scaled down operations from Malpensa (MXP).. Checking in 75-90 min before departure is more than sufficient for an intra European flight from MXP.

I can second Roberto's hotel recommendation, based on personal experience

I used the Sheraton attached to Terminal 1. You walk to it as it is physically attached to the terminal. Large rooms, comfy beds, great service, not an outrageous price compared to other options for when I stayed there..

The room I ended up in included access to the lounge with free snacks, alcohol, other drinks, and breakfast. I was able to make dinner from the snacks offered so saved a significant amount of Euros compared to buying dinner. Breakfast might not be an option for you as it doesn't start until 06:00. Also, being attached to the terminal, no worry about scheduling a ride. I checked out about 90 minutes before my flight departed and arrived at the gate with plenty of time to spare. Your experience may vary. .
