One night stay in Milan-

Hi,
My wife and I will be flying out of MXP at 10:10am on a Tuesday. We are going to take the train from Rome to Milan on Monday. We would like to walk around Milan, but we are more concerned about getting to the airport easily the next day.

Can you recommend a hotel to stay in? We just need bare bones and hopefully inexpensive. Thank you.

Hotel Garda, near the train station. Grab breakfast at VyTa at the train station.

We stayed at Best Western Hotel Madison, and it was very convenient to the station as well. Rooms were clean and comfortable, price was right, and breakfast - while continental - was just fine. We also had to walk to the station in the dark of a very early morning, and didn't feel unsafe even though the area can appear a little on the gritty side. Friendly desk staff, 24-hour security, and coffeemaker in the room: rare for mid-to-budget range Italian hotels.

There must be something going on that week. We need a stay from Mon April 11-12, and Hotel Garda costs 293 Euro and The best western is 1000euro!!! We may have to look at an apartment/hostel. We don't want to spend more than 120euro.

RK, have you tried First Hotel Malpensa or another hotel right near the airport, with free shuttle to the airport. You could arrive in Milano by train, store your bags at baggage storage at the train station, wander the city or even take a tour, have dinner, and then take the train to the airport and hotel.

Great idea to stay at the airport hotel! There is a Sheraton right at the airport and I have enough spg points for a free stay!!!

RK,

A free room is certainly a big incentive, but another option you could consider would be to stay somewhere near Via Dante and Milano Cadorna station. That provides an easy ~40 minute ride to the airport, and the location will allow you to walk around the Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele and other sites in the main part of the city. Have a look at Hotel London for one hotel in that area. Just a thought......

If you are planning to be there during Expo, that explains the prices. Stay at the airport hotel.

EXPO 2015 will be over by April, but Milan is a big convention/trade show town. Like Chicago, you can judge the size of the trade show by the prices the hotels are asking.
