My daughter and her 3 roommates in Florence want to stay for one night in a Cinque Terre town on Saturday, July 16 (Yes, It's very short notice. They just arrived there for summer school.) Any suggestions? Any inside scoop on a place they could try? They're interested in Monterosso al Mare or Vernazzo but would stay in any town if they could find a place. So far all 7 places they've checked are booked up. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ANY TIPS!!!

Maureen, As you've found, at this late date the choices are going to be VERY limited. Even though they would prefer to stay in Monterosso or Vernazza, I suspect they'll probably have to take what they can get. It's difficult to know what to recommend, as you didn't indicate which places they have already checked? A few suggestions that come to mind are: > The CT Hostel in Manarola (well run and clean, but note that they have a STRICT lockout in the afternoon) > Mar-Mar Rooms in Riomaggiore - they also operate somewhat of a "mini-Hostel" in addition to rooms, so they may have space > Ostello Corniglia - it's not the most ideal location, as the town is located up on a rock bluff and consequently it's not as popular with travellers. However, if they just want a place to sleep and will be in the other towns all day, it should be fine. There's a Shuttle from the train station or they can walk up the hill on a nice stairway. The fact that Corniglia isn't as popular might mean this will be her best prospect. Good luck!

In Manarola, Casa Capellini or Aria di mare. Also, upon arrival at the train station, there may be people advertising rooms for rent. Good luck.
