Will be taking a cruise from Civitavecchia and are looking for ideas on a place to stay for one night beforehand. We are looking for someplace on a train line within a 2-3 hour ride from the port. Have thought about Pisa, but was wondering about some of the smaller towns between Pisa and Civitaveecchia. Thanks for any assistance.

A 20-minute bus ride from Orbetello will put you at the seaside in Porto Santo Stefano. It has a lovely promenade and some nice restaurants. Quite scenic. Check train schedules from Orbetello carefully -- it is only a 40 to 50-minute trip -- but only a few trains a day.
