One night near FCO

We will be arriving from our PDX flight to FCO around 7:30 p.m. and leaving the next day on a flight to Trieste. It seems like the most sensible thing to do is to find a hotel with a restaurant, have dinner, shower, and go to bed. The Hilton would fit the bill, but it has mediocre reviews and high prices. Anyone have a recommendation for something better?

I spent my last night in Italy at the FCO Hilton the end of September 2022. I thought the room was perfectly fine. Service was fine. There was only one restaurant/bar, which was crowded and I had to wait for a table. Food was expensive for 'standard' restaurant quality.

OTOH, it was a quick walk the next morning direct to the terminal checkin desks (I had a bag to check). I was flying Swiss Business Class (FCO-ZRH-ORD-PDX (hi neighbor!)) so just had a mini breakfast in the lounge before my flight.

The Hilton is extremely convenient and we thought it was fine. We paid with points, so I can’t comment on the pricing. We rarely find bargains at airport hotels and are willing to pay up for the convenience of walking to the terminal for a morning flight.

I have stayed twice at Hotel Tiber in Fumicino. They run a shuttle to/from the airport that takes maybe 10-15 minutes. It’s located along a canal that empties out into the sea - you can watch the fishermen bring in their catch in the late afternoon. There are many nearby restaurants.

That said, I have also stayed at the Hilton and it was fine. More expensive, but very convenient.

PDX to FCO sounds like a pretty long travel day. Since you're leaving the next day, just stay at the Hilton.

We spent the last night of our April 2022 trip at the Hilton - comfortable room, decent burger and gin and tonics.

The Hilton at the airport is the most convenient. So I generally stay there.

Prices may be higher, but you pay for the convenience and if you choose another hotel nearby that requires you to take a taxi you’ll need to add at least 30€ taxi fare each way to the hotel cost, while the Hilton is a short walk across the terminals.

The Hilton restaurant is a bit expensive (by Italian standards) for not so outstanding food, but unless I’m tired and lazy, I simply walk to the airport terminals where there are more food choices that are better than the Hilton restaurant and with lower pricing (and that includes Eataly).

I’m becoming convinced that the convenience of the Hilton trumps other considerations, especially after enduring a flight starting out in Portland, with a 4 hour layover in London. I hadn’t thought of eating dinner in one of the terminals before going to the hotel. Thanks, Roberto, for that idea.

I have to 2nd on the hotel at the airport. Wish more airports would follow this great example. Well worth the price IMO

I loved the airport Hilton. Short walk and the room was clean and a good size, perfect for what you need.
And the staff was so nice!
