One night in Venice before flight- where to stay?

My husband and I will be ending our Italy trip with one afternoon and night in Venice before flying out at noon the next day. We drop the rental car off around noon when we arrive.

Are there things you would recommend or recommend not to do when selecting accommodations? I don’t want to select someplace that is too difficult or takes too long to access that it detracts from our short time there, but I also think it would be cool to stay someplace fun. We are considering splurging on a water taxi to the airport when we leave. Our budget is up to $500 USD for the night.

We generally prefer areas that are less touristy, and currently plan to spend the afternoon wandering around, taking in the city, and ending with a good dinner. No real agenda than to get a glimpse of Venice before our trip ends.

I’m looking at some in Dorsoduro and one in Castello, but I don’t want to sacrifice my time by choosing someplace difficult to get in and out of.

I’d appreciate any thoughts or advice!

We love Hotel Ai Mori D'Oriente in the Cannaregio area- quiet back canals, no crowds, yet a ten minute walk to the vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal. You can take sunset pix without anyone in the frame. The hotel is right on a small canal so the water taxi can pick you up at the front door. We are returning to this hotel next spring. Enjoy this beautiful city.

We visited Venice for three days a few weeks ago. With such a short time you might consider this: water taxi arrival, stay at Una Hotel Ala Venezia which is about ten minutes away from San Marco but not in a terribly crowded area. For dinner, treat yourselves to a romantic table overlooking the grand canal. We ate at Gio's - expensive, but excellent food and service.

We've stayed at Hotel Ala several times. It's a great location and a lovely hotel. In a very quiet campo about a 10 min walk to San Marco.
It is steps from the San Giglio vaporetto stop so easy for water taxi arrival/departure.

A search here should turn up some reviews as there are other members who favor Hotel Ala as well
Last I looked their rates seemed to have skyrocketed which sort of upset me - but it should still be well within your budget.
