We have 1 night to stay in Venice after coming back from a cruise and before catching a flight out of Milan. Any suggestions for an inexpensive, low-frills hotel in Venice? Clean and located well are the main criteria.
You might run into some difficulties as many places in Venice want a minimum 2-night stay in the busy season. Are you interested in a place near the cruise terminal or can you vaporetto down the canal a bit? Or, vaporetto down the Giudecca canal which may be less expensive. Clean rooms you can get. Almost all are. Low frills - you can get that too. Inexpensive? That may be tough. Even some nice pensiones can be 140Euro a night.
We're cruising out of Trieste so being near the cruise terminal in Venice isn't important. My husband and I are adventurous travelers but this is our first trip to Europe -- so I'm probably over analyzing and worrying too much! We have a reservation at a Comfort Inn but it seems silly to be in a Comfort Inn in Italy!
The Comfort Hotel isn't a bad choice because it's tucked behind Piazza San Marco close to everything. If it has good reviews on Tripadvisor and meets your budget, I'd hang onto your reservation.
Check out the site venere.com - you can enter the date you need and sort by price, it is a handy way to see what is available in your price range. They also have readers' reviews like TripAdvisor. I had a nice stay and recommend the Tivoli Hotel near Campo San Margherita. Nice location perhaps as untourirsty as you can get in Venice with lots of dining, drinking options and just down the street from a wonderful bakery, Tonolo. Nicely located between Accademia and Rialto Bridge.
Doug's right...just because it says Comfort Inn doesn't mean the building isn't 400 years old, in that neighborhood, you're not going to find any big box type hotels/motels...in this case a rose by any other name is still a rose.
Pensione Guerrato had no doubles with bath left, so we accepted a double with sink and convenient toilet and shower a bit down the hall... the result was 90 Euros paying cash. Location is Vaporetto stop Rialto Mercado- the market. Staff is wonderful, Rialto bridge a couple of minutes walk. Rick boards his tour groups here often. We found it perfect for our needs.
