One night in Rome -- what direction would you go with lodging?

Thanks to suggestions from this board, we're coming back to Rome (from Venice) the night before our flight home. We'll be arriving at Termini station, and the plan is to take the night tour of the Vatican Museums.

With that in mind, with each of these options being within $10 of each other, which would you choose?

-- an apartment-style hotel near the Vatican (far from the train, but close to where we're going; has a pool for the kids)

-- a boutique hotel near Trevi Fountain (halfway between train and Vatican; great reviews)

-- a private room in a hostel near Termini (convenient to transportation; near-perfect reviews on every site)

Any input is much appreciated!

Id be torn bw Trevi and Train Station options. I would skip the Vatican one - one night means you can’t use the amenities there and I’d bet it’s in a pretty out of the way location for anything besides the Vatican itself.

Trevi - easy enough access to the train and Vatican. Close to other nice areas to walk around - you can see the Trevi, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon (outside only if there’s a line or you go late or early AM but still amazing).

Train station - easily the most convenient. But not all that atmospheric an area.

I personally would go Trevi.

Termini station location---- makes it easy to check in and dump your luggage on arrival to Rome and easy access to train or bus to get to FCO, if you choose not to use a taxi.

Also easy Metro access to the Vatican as noted above.

If money is an object: Termini option and take public transit.
If money is no object: Trevi Fountain one and taxi everywhere for everything.

(I say no object but in the grand scheme of the trip may only be a small percentage increase in cost so you have to be the judge on that, I would prefer that option but it is not my money)

Thanks for all the input! I think we'll go with the Trevi option and just stick to taxis as suggested.

I usually stay in a budget hotel near the main train station ( Contila and Sonya, and Aberdeen are a couple of examples.) There are several others in that area.
I felt very safe walking by myself at night around the few blocks, to restaurant, or small store etc.

Don't limit yourself to taxis - Uber is widely available and we used it several times.

I agree with the decision for the Trevi area!

Have a Great Trip!

For a differing point of view I really dislike the area around Trevi. We really liked the area around Campe dei Fiori near Piazza Navonna and the Pantheon also a very enjoyable walk to the Vatican.

We stayed 1 night at Hotel Oceania. 10 min walk to train station. Loved the hotel. Decent rates.
