One night in Rome recommendations?

Hi all. We have one evening to spend in Rome the night of August 28 before our flight to Boston. My husband and I will have already spent some time there, but it will be my mom and her boyfriend's first time. Obviously we will not be planning or expecting to do or see everything, but we would love to find a hotel that would allow us to easily walk around the center, let them see the Colosseum from the outside, have a nice meal, etc., but still be convenient enough to get to the airport for our 10am flight. We'd like to spend around $100 max (per couple/room). Any suggestions?

Also check the Xenia Guest House. It is in the historic area close to Campo di Fiori and the tram that goes into Trastevere neighborhood. You can easily walk to Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. We typically stay in that neighborhood and take the tram to the Trastevere station, then catch the local train to FCO airport. The train in only about 15 minutes longer than the Express train from the main train station and much more convenient to ger to from the historic area.

Rachael, you might want to look at booking.com for a hotel in the area you want for the price you're looking for. $100 U.S. is only 84.27€, which is pretty low for a nice room in central Rome during high season. I won't say it's impossible but, well, it's really pretty low, and if your companions have only one night in the Eternal City, I'd be cautious that their lasting memory wasn't of a less-than-optimal sleep!

Thanks, everyone! Much appreciate the suggestions. We found a decent looking place called Hotel Alexandra near the Trevi Fountain with double rooms under our budget--since we don't need to leave at the crack of dawn in the morning, hopefully it should be okay!
