With all the planning and booking and more planning !!We totally missed a full day. I know ..hard to believe. My question is do I spend 4 days in Venice or add that day to our trip to the Dolomites which was just going to be a nice drive with a one night stay. We will be in Venice for the Regatta 4th & 5th of September but that extra day ( which is a Monday) I am at a standstill...what are your thoughts??
Oh by the way..thanks to all who have helped me throughout these several months plan my vacation with Hubby and GPS at my side and not necessarily in that order :)
Thanks
Pat
Well I love Venice, and spent 6 days there on a Rick Steves tour a few years ago and every minute was wonderful -- so I vote for an extra day there.
We were in Venice 3 days and 2 nights. The teenagers were bored -wanted no more museums, no more podcast tours, more changes of scenery. With the kids I think 2 day 1 night would have been better.
With kids you should visit the St Elena area of Venice. It's got parks with grass, trees, fountains, swings, basketball/tennis courts, local kids are out playing. The best pizza I've had anywhere in Italy came from the little pizzeria whole in the wall place in St Elena. It's a whole different way of life in St Elena as compared to San Marco.
Haven't been to the Dolomites, but a friend went and said it was very nice. So if you want a relaxing time hiking in the mountains....
I have been to Venice twice for 4 days, and I know I will go back again on my next trip to Italy. It is not only my favorite city in Italy, but my 3rd favorite ever. (after Paris and Jerusalem)
My initial inclination would be to stay in Venice another day and explore some of the off the beaten path places. The idea to go to the public gardens is excellent. Pretty much only the Venetians go there, and it's a lovely break from some of the more hustle-bustle of other parts of the city.
However, you say that you would be doing one night only in the Dolomites, and I really don't like doing less than two nights anywhere. Either way, you'll have a great time.
We were in Venice for 3 days and 2 nights. We loved walking the endless canals, shopping for masks and eating gelato. The churches and museums were spectacular. Defintely one more day!
Hi Margaret,
Just my 2 cents... I'm (in) the minority here, but I'd add the "extra" night to the Dolomites. Some of the best (and unique) scenery anywhere.
