One day to hike in Ortisei. Recommendations requested.

Well, we made it to Ortisei. The weather is not cooperating and it looks like we might, just might, get one day of hiking in during a break in the weather. As such, the three day pass for $60pp is not going to be a value to us. Can anyone recommend a day hike to/from here for a couple that are in reasonably good health but not experienced hikers?

Hi Terry. Take the funiculare up at Rasciesa and walk to the rifugio about 40 minutes along the #35 (I think!!) path. You can go beyond it to the little chapel and if you feel like it, go up to Santa Croce which is a little climb but not technical nor difficult. I highly recommend the rifugio for lunch!

Bummer about the weather. We were there almost a month ago, and had 2 good days out of 4. Another suggestion is to take the Mont Seuc gondola up to the Alpe di Siusi. There is an easy trail down to the meadow, then you pick your direction to hike across the huge meadow, surrounded by beautiful mountains. Pick up one of the maps of the area to see the various trails from the lifts. Our hotel recommended the walk to the Sanon Refugio for lunch, and we enjoyed that. It was only about 35-45 minutes from the lifts, so we walked on for a bit, then came back.
We also took the Resciesa funicular and did the hike Laura suggested the next day, and stopped at the Refugio. I would say that of the two, the meadow hike was easier, but the other one wasn't terribly difficult. They are different in that from the meadow you are looking up and around at the mountains. With the Resciesa hike, you are high up and looking out at the other mountains.
If you plan your time well and pay attention to closing times of the lifts, you could do both, but that would be more to see both sights, not to have a day long hike.

Thank you both so very much for your prompt replies. We went to bed last night and it was cold and raining. This morning we awoke to bright blue skies! If we can get a two day break in the rain, I'm sure we will try both of your suggestions while we are here. Time to get going while the weather holds!
