One day or 2 days in Milan

Hi everyone We are going to Cingue Terre end of the May. We are flying to Linate Airport, Milan, and then take train to Cinque Terra. We are planning to spend one or two nights near-by Linate Airport. We enjoy scenery, art museum, concert, seeing interesting places and eating italian foods. Would you give us a recommendaiton what will be the best plan (or itinerary) to spend one or two days in Milan? Thanks so much

The RS Italy 2011 book is a great resource for itineraries. You can see what he recommends and decide for yourself what to do based on your interests. If you just rely on what people here suggest, you won't have any way of knowing what you might be missing that might be of more interest. Good luck.

We just returned from Milan last week. Arrived in town on a Thursday late afternoon and departed early Saturday morning (so, in town for 2 nights and 1 full day). In between, we did some shopping, went inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, took the stairs to the roof of the Duomo, went inside the Duomo, ate lunch on the 7th floor of the Rinascente Department Store, saw the Arcimboldo art exhibit in the Palazzo Reale (http://en.daringtodo.com/?p=30754), saw the 'Last Supper' at Santa Maria delle Grazie, and toured the Pinoteca Ambrosiana art museum (fantastic). Had a very nice meal at Antica Osteria (Vai Camperio 12), which is listed in Rick's Italy book. This cozy, neighborhood place served excellent food (e.g., various risottos, pasta dishes, and pork chop Milanese - the original schnitzel), was reasonably priced, and had a friendly staff. We would have gone back there again if we had stayed longer in Milan. In Milan, we stayed at the Hotel Gran Duca di York (www.ducadiyork.com); it is also listed in Rick's Italy book. It was clean, quiet, comfortable, served an excellent breakfast, and had a very helpful staff. Location-wise, it is literally across the street from the Pinoteca Ambrosiana and 5 minutes walk to the Duomo. We would definitely stay there again. From this location, we never took public transportation anywhere because all of the above sights were within walking distance of the hotel. You might consider the time and money saved by staying in a hotel like this rather than at the airport.
