I will be on a cruise ship visiting Rome at end of August for one day. I've never been to Rome before, and am not expecting or intending to over do things and try to see too much. Not greatly interested in museums, but would like to see some of the sights either on foot or maybe a guided tour. I have looked at our cruise ships 'shore excursions', there is basically a choice of two, which are expensive and described as being approx. 10hrs and 'strenuous'. I don't really want to be in a big group on a whistle stop tour with 30 mins here, 10 mins there etc. Not keen on standing in big queues in the August heat either as I know the heat will be a bit much for me anyway. We will obviously need to get from the port of Civitavechia either way, so maybe train or private tour is best option. Someone on same cruise is trying to organise a small group with www.italytours.eu but not sure how good they are. Any suggestions welcome please, we are able to do a bit of walking, but again would like some time to explore and just take it easy with some gelato etc!
thanks for any tips received.
