Hi! My wife and I will be in Naples for one day in October. We would love to see the Amalfi Coast. Can you help...
Have you tried Google? It will answer your question...just type "Naples to Amalfi Coast". Alternatively, one of Rick's books covers it.
Are you on a cruise, by any chance? I'm wondering why only "one day".
Hi Agnes. Yes, I will be stopping at Naples on our cruise. I will look at Google and I will check out Rick's. Article.
Thank You
Bill
Check out # 2) on the below link. It has good instructions from Naples:

When I was there, I visited Sorrento first and then took a SITA bus down the Amalfi Coastline. If you're looking for guided type tours, there has been a lot of positive feedback on this site for Walks of Italy. If you're crunched for time, you may want to consider a tour - otherwise, it's easy to do on your own (but it will take all day long).
Agnes, thank you... Great information. Appreciate your wonderful advice.
You might want to consider hiring a private taxi driver, such as Raffaele Monetti . http://www.monettitaxi17.it/English.htm
They will pick you up in Naples and you can plan your trip with them beforehand. That could be especially helpful if you have to back at the ship the same day. It is not cheap, but could save you the hassle of trying to make all the connections yourself. You can email them and they will respond with options. Raffaele is very personable, and will make the day very enjoyable. He is in the Rick Steve's book.
Bus and ferry schedule.
Since you will be at the port, use the ferry to Sorrento 40 min. Change to the Amalfi ferry, 1hour. Then take either the bus, (purchase a daily ticket),or ferry to connect the towns.
Make sure you know when the last ferry leaves Sorrento to get you back to your ship on time.
Might be a good idea to have this last ticket purchased ahead of time.
I agree with gerri: you can take a ferry and then a bus from the Naples port of Montevello, with a bit of prep work. There are direct ferries to Capri, Sorrento and other islands with no bus involved. Getting to the Amalfi coast involves a transfer and/or bus from Naples. We did not get to Amalfi specifically but found the ferry ride to Capri and Sorrento quite easy (highly recommend!)
Gerri & Carolyn:
Thank You for your great advice. I appreciate your time and assistance.
