One day in Naples

Curious what to for one day when our ship docks in Naples? Positano and Capri? Is there time? Go by taxi, Uber or ferry? Book a tour? Also do the Rick Steve’s hotels typically have hair dryers?
Thank you for info!!!

Given the Transportation difficulties around the Amalfi coast, I would stick to a ship excursion that goes to the AC towns, if that is your pick. Opt for a boat tour instead of a bus tour if at all possible.. If you choose, instead, to visit Capri, be VERY mindful of the ferry times, both coming and going, and leave a good margin of error so you return well before the All Aboard time. Pompeii can be done DIY- take a taxi to the Circumvesuviana train station, train to the Pompeii Scavi station. Tour guides are available for hire at the entrance, or self guide with a guidebook. Naples itself can be DIYd with a guidebook. Visit the Archeological Museum. Sample some excellent pizza. Take a self guided walk. Rick has a whole list of places to visit in the city: https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/italy/naples

Stick to ship excursions. My boyfriend at the time and I almost missed the cruise leaving Napoli bc of extremely limited ferries from Sorrento. We had to get a taxi that charged 100 euros and we barely made it back. That stress erased the beautiful day we enjoyed in Sorrento.

Even if you opt to stay in Naples you cannot go wrong with their pizza and street food, amazing gelato Gay Odin, and various museums.

I highly recommend the underground tour of Naples.... I love Naples. Walk the streets and get a feel for what makes Naples Naples.

I agree-stick to the ship tours, they won’t leave without you if you’re late returning for “their” tour. If you decide to go it alone, we took the Freccia to Pompeii Scavi, then you board a 5 minute bus ride to the ruins. We booked a tour through Walks of Italy. The train was comfy and only like $5 pp. If you’re considering the ferry to Capri—pre-book both ways! I didn’t book our return trip so we had to hang around and wait. On another note, we went to the Catacombs Of San gennaro and there’s no taxi stand nearby, thankfully one of the guides called a taxi for us (no Uber and “FREENOW” doesn’t always work).
