One day In Florence, one day in Siena (w kids)

Hi!
We are heading to Tuscany today with kids ages 9 and almost 4. Staying in the country in chianti region. Doing a cooking class Tues near San Gimiagno. That gives us Monday and Wed. We are close to Siena so will def go there. Can anyone recommend top sights, things to do there that won't be too hot and that will be enjoyable for the kids? Lunch and gelato recommendations of course recommended!
I'm on the fence about a day trip to Florence given the heat and crowds (my husband and I were both there as teenagers so we have seen the major sights). But if we were to do one, what's doable w the kids in this heat? Given that we haven't gotten tix in advance I assume the David is not possible since we don't want to wait in line for a long time.
Thx in advance!

The large piazza in Siena is filled with restaurants and the kids could have space to run around.

Just enjoy Siena and stay in the shade!

Consider the (air conditioned) Galileo museum in Florence. Lots for kids to do and explore in there; also, it's right on the river, and a couple of blocks' walk toward the Ponte Vecchio from the museum entrance will bring you to some good gelato.

If you haven't been to Piazzale Michelangelo that might be a good outdoor stop for an overview of the city and room for the kids to run around. There is the Giardino delle Rose that you could walk down through back to town. Might be fun.

I think the piazzas in both towns are great for Kids.
They are usually car free so they can move around a little more freely than usual especially your 4 year old.

Siena's main piazza is massive, there are birds everywhere which the kids will enjoy and of course Gelato shops abound.
The 9 year old may enjoy the medevil vibe.

Florence packs quite a few things in a small walking area, with a good amount of it free from cars.
There is a carousel and a Disney store for things to do for the 4 year old.
The Ponte Vecchio bridge often has live music / entertainment outdoors.
If they have energy take them up the hill to Piazzale Michaelango for a commanding view.

I would likely skip the museums with the kids but the duomos in both cities I think they would enjoy.
